Rallylegend commemorates Colin McRae’s triumph in 1995 WRC

Rallylegend and one of the rallying greats. There is a strong connection to Colin McRae, a champion who made his mark and continues to live on in the hearts and minds of the fans. Thirty years ago, McRae won his first and only world title, becoming part of rallying history with the blue Subaru Impreza 555.

A special event to take place over the four days of Rallylegend, on 2-5 October, will celebrate the legend that is Colin McRae.

The initiative, “Colin McRae WRC 1995”, is enthusiastically supported by the Scottish champion’s family and by Carlo Boroli, founder of the “Best Impreza” project. Jimmy McRae, father of Colin and five-time British rally champion, will be in attendance in San Marino, as will brother Alister, another British champion who also achieved results in World Rally. To mark the occasion, they will be joined by a series of champions and great drivers linked to Colin McRae and to the period in which he reached the pinnacle of his career.

Alister McRae will be one of the stars of “McRae Subaru group A Rally Trophy”, a race within a race open only to group A Subaru Impreza and Legacy vehicles, with dedicated prizes provided by Pirelli and Sparco.

Another initiative, which many collectors and owners have already embraced, is the exhibition of original vehicles driven by Colin McRae during his career: as well as the Subaru Impreza and Legacy, Rally Village will host the Ford Focus WRC, Citroen Xsara WRC and many other exclusive vehicles used by the Scottish champion.

Another unmissable moment will be the “Special Stage Parade”, on Saturday and Sunday, when the Subaru Impreza and Legacy vehicles in attendance at Rallylegend will take part in a parade lap of “The Legend” special stage.

“For us, Colin McRae represents the essence of Rallylegend”, comments Vito Piarulli, the organiser of the San Marino event along with Paolo Valli. “In 2006 we invited him to attend our event the following year, an event he already knew about and was very keen to attend. Unfortunately, the tragic helicopter accident prevented this from happening. He remains an unforgettable champion in our minds, and, thanks to the friendship of his family, we will celebrate him, once more, just as he deserves.”

Carlo Boroli, founder of “Best Impreza”, adds: “I’m incredibly pleased that Best, together with the McRae family, will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Colin’s win with the Subaru Impreza at the twenty-third edition of Rallylegend. Together with the organizers we’ll do so in the best possible way, by presenting the first Colin McRae Trophy, which will go to the winner of a real rally within the rally, reserved to Group A Subarus. And the guest of honour will be Alister McRae in a Best Impreza, of course. One of the six – out of seven – Best Limited Editions already produced as a tribute to Colin’s seven group A world championship wins. The Best mission – to keep legends alive – continues!”
